We are now a family of FOUR! Welcome Luke Lawrence

We are so excited and proud to announce that Luke Lawrence Royer was born on June 12, 2014 at 9:34 am. He was 8 lbs 11.6 ounces and 21 inches long. Healthy baby boy!

It was exactly one day before my due date. I laid down on the brown couch in our room and felt something that made me thing maybe my fluid was leaking (no gush or anything). I totally wasn't sure - so I laid there a while longer to see if anything else would happen. Nothing. I got up and told James and said I didn't think it was anything and decided to just go to bed. At midnight I woke up wet! For some reason I still wasn't sure if it was my water breaking. Since we live in Florida and don't have family around - I was scared to wake up Ethan and our friend who was going to watch him if it was really nothing. I wasn't having any contractions or anything. So, I insisted that I drive myself to the hospital just to make sure it wasn't a false alarm.

It felt very weird to drive to the hospital alone shortly after midnight. When I got there the parking lot felt empty. Triage was empty. I felt like all the nurses were just sitting around. They checked me out in triage and verified that my water did break. After making a call into the doctor they decided that they would let me sit through the night and if contractions didn't start I would start pitocin at 6:00 am. I called James and told him to let Ethan sleep until that time and then wake him up, take him to our friends, and then James could head to the hospital. I figured I would be sitting around all day getting induced.

I tried to sleep until 6:00 am but wasn't able to sleep a wink. Before 6 the nurses came in and literally asked me 800 questions. They started pitocin. The first 15 minutes weren't bad. At 6:15 they upped it again. Still not too bad. At 6:30 it was increased - I was starting to feel contractions. 6:45 - they were getting more intense. By 7:30 am I was dying...and that is when James finally arrived! They continued to up the pitocin every 15 minutes and the contractions were crazy! They were coming every minute and were awwwwwfffuuuulll! I still didn't have an epidural. They said I had to wait my turn and wait to get all the fluid in me. It felt like it took forever. Finally shortly before 9:00 I got my epidural and I didn't even feel like it was working. They left the room and I told James I felt the need to push and felt like the baby was coming. I told him to get a nurse - she came in and...yep I was dilated to a 10. I pushed for a total of 13 minutes and Luke arrived!
