Ethan has been learning new things each day. What a fun age! Just today when I picked him up from school they were saying how impressed they were with the fact that he could point out all of his "friends." At lunch they were asking him to point to each friend around the table and he was able to point out, and try to say, everyone's name! They asked him to point to each teacher and he was able to do that, too. They even brought over the babies from the other side of the room (that he doesn't see as much) and he was able to point out each of them as well! The cutest part is that whenever they ask him where Kylin is (she is one of the most adorable little girls), he gets his sort of shy/embarrassed/goofy grin as he points her out. I think our little guy has his first crush! ;o) Too cute. When they were telling me this, one of the little boys was just waking up from his nap. Ethan noticed and started saying, "Rocco! Rocco! Rocco! Rocco!" He was so excited that his friend was awake.
His teachers have also been telling us what a great helper Ethan is. As soon as they mention clean up time, before lunch, he has been really good about helping to clean up. He also does a great job at home with this. He knows to put his books away after he reads them. If something spills or drops, he will bend down and help me until it is all picked up. Today he was even helping me empty the dishwasher. He actually took some of the travel coffee mugs and put them in the right spot in one of the lower cabinets.
He is loving learning about Jesus. He loves to go to church to sing. He jams to the music during our worship time. He also has a book about Jesus that he loves to read. I wouldn't think it would be a book that would be very exciting to him, but it is one of his favorites. He always brings it to us and says, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus...." He still tries to pray with us and he is quick to say, "amen, amen, amen," even if we aren't done praying yet. :)
He enjoys running all over the place. He runs circles around our house saying, "Go, Go, Go." He also tries to say "On your mark, get set, GO!." If we say "One...." he will then say a drawn out, "twooooo....." then we say "Three....GO"! We are trying to get him to say one and three - but all he wants to say is two!
I have also been trying to teach him his colors. I think it is funny because he has learned to say, "yellow." So, for right now, EVERYTHING is yellow! He can say blue, red, and purple - but yellow must just be more fun to say!
Speaking of words - he is now saying a lot of words. I think I mentioned before that he can say all of the Sesame Street characters - but now he can say them very clearly. He says elmo (his favorite, Cookies (for Cookie Monster), Oscar, Ernie, Bert, and Zoey (not so clear). His vocabulary is rapidly increasing! One of my favorite things is when I give him something and he says "Thank you Mama" (without anyone telling him to say thank you). So sweet! When I am putting Ethan to bed he will also say, "night night, mama," as I am laying him down. I love that!
We are still struggling with Ethan's bad cough. He has pretty much had a cough all winter (except for a couple of weeks). I have taken him to the doctor several times and they are telling me that he has asthma. So, at the last trip to the doctors they told me to put him on a steroid inhaler and use this as a maintenance medicine all winter. I started giving it to him and the next day noticed that he was extremely agitated, hyper, and was having major tempter tantrums. I continued to give it to him for about a week. It was a bad week! After researching online I found other parents have experienced the same things (although doctor's say there are no side effects). So, I quickly took him off of the steroid. It DID get rid of his cough, but I didn't like how it altered his behavior. So, now the cough is back. I am not sure what to do about this darn cough! Some days it is worse than others. We give him the breathing treatment when he gets really wheezy and that helps a bit. We will be going back to the doctors soon - so we will see what they say. I am already looking forward to summer!
We are very blessed with such a good little guy. He really is a good boy! He goes to bed so easily, wakes up happy, and is pretty happy-go-lucky all day long.
