I am a little late on this post because I was having an emergency surgery on Ethan's 11 month birthday. Friday at 1:00 am I woke up with a terrible pain underneath my rib cage. I ended up driving myself to the ER at about 3:30 am and had surgery 13 hours later. It was NOT a fun experience and I am still recovering. However, I am very thankful for all of the family and friends that have helped me. My Mom watched Ethan through the whole time I was at the hospital. She also watched Ethan (and I) on Monday. Ethan sure does love her!
I can't pick Ethan up, so I kind of need someone with us while James is at work. Yesterday Colleen and Beth came over for the morning. They came in all ready to clean my house, do my grocery shopping, and take care of Ethan (and I). I told them I would rather just have their company - but I was so thankful for their thoughtfulness. They did get me a great lunch and provided me with great company. James was able to come home for the afternoon yesterday.
Today my Mother in law and two nephews (Trent and Joel) came over to help me out and keep us company. I got treated to French Toast for breakfast and Sloppy Joes for lunch. I feel completely spoiled. To top it all off, we just got dinner delivered tonight! Holy Smokes. I am feeling kind of guilty for having all of this special treatment. :) How do I say thanks to all of these great people?
I was supposed to be doing a six week "boot camp" at church. The lady that was doing this, Laura, has also been so sweet to me during this time. I just met her, yet she has been checking in with me through phone calls, emails, and she even brought me an amazing dinner last night. What a God sent! This lady is amazing. :) Not only was the dinner great, but the better part is that I know it was healthy. :) Gotta love that! She even made home made dark chocolate pudding - yum!
So, enough about me - this update is supposed to be about Ethan. Despite my recent "setback" Ethan and I have been having a blast being home for the summer. We have had lots of fun play times and are looking forward to more adventures as soon as I am fully healed.
Ethan is so fun to watch as he learns more and more. He is soooo anxious to be fully moving around. I hope and pray that he will be soon (everyone tells me that I will wonder why I prayed for this when it happens). He is getting closer. He rolls all over the floor. He also sits on his bottom and goes in circles. I have definitely tried everything to get him to crawl - but he just isn't interested. He does get VERY excited when you hold his hands and let him walk. He is getting very good at his clapping - he seems to be doing that all of the time. He is very funny to listen to. He has been making new sounds every day. He likes to experiment with his noises. He also tries to mimic a lot of what Mommy and Daddy say. He still says "Uh Oh" every time he drops something. He also likes to throw anything that he can get his hands on. His recent obsession is wheels. He loves ANYTHING that has wheels on it. If you give him a car he will flip it over, take his little finger, and spin those wheels forever. I recently bought a remote control JEEP. Last night it seemed like the played with those wheels all night.
Grandma Royer also gave Ethan a big bucket FULL of little cars. Ethan loves to dig through these and inspect each of the cars and their wheels. Out of all of the cars, he has a favorite. He digs and digs until he finds that specific one. He cracks us up. :)
Ethan also LOVES his "So Big" Elmo book. This is a book that we have read to him since...well probably since he was in the womb. Every time you get the book to read it, he gets so excited. He practically smiles through the whole book. If you ask him how big he is, he will also (sometimes) show you.
This month, Ethan has gotten lots of teeth! He now has 6 teeth, and I am sure more are on the way. I am sure this wasn't very fun for him, but he was still in pretty good spirits through all those new chompers.
For Father's Day we went and got some professional photos. I used some of them in a frame that I made for James. I included this poem in the frame, with footprints of Ethan inside footprints that I traced from James' shoes. I think it turned out cute.
Sometimes your steps are very fast,
Sometimes they're hard to see;
So walk a little slower, Daddy,
For you are leading me.
Someday when I 'm all grown up,
You're what I want to be;
Then I will have a little child Who'll want to follow me.
And I would want to lead just right,
And know that I was true;
So walk a little slower, Daddy,
For I must follow you.
